Relevant information about Master’s dissertations and research projects

Master’s dissertation

All students enrolled in the Master’s Degree, regardless of their chosen professional or research profile, will have to complete a Master’s dissertation (TFM) of 6 credits.

The dissertation is an individual project, an analysis or an original study that allows the student to show, in an integrated way, the training content received, the abilities, skills and competences acquired during the master’s degree.

  1. The dissertation can have two orientations, depending on the student’s profile: dissertation with a professional profile, in which the student will carry out an individual tutored work that develops, after the completion of the training placement in the company or the internship application project, an original and differentiated study of the internship application project in the company, if applicable. This work must combine the knowledge and skills acquired in the master’s degree with the resolution of a problem detected in a company internship, a proposal to improve some aspect of business management or the proposal of a business project.
  2. The dissertation with a research profile, where the student will carry out an individual tutored project that develops, after carrying out the research work, the transfer of the research question to the professional environment, with special emphasis on the implications and practical application to business management of the IT carried out, and the transfer of results that this may entail, through an informative approach.

The work, in either of the two itineraries, professional or research, aims to develop and apply all the basic, general and specific competences used in the contents of the Master’s in Business Management.

The Master’s dissertation must comply with the regulations of the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies of the University of Cadiz.

The evaluation of the dissertation will be carried out by the academic tutor and the evaluation committee appointed for this purpose, with the basis of these evaluations being as follows:

Academic tutor: 70%

Evaluation committee: 30%

In order to carry out the evaluation process of the dissertation, both the academic tutor and the evaluation committee have at their disposal a rubric document that is available in this section.

The academic tutor will be assigned to the student with a professional profile when they are allocated the internship and taking into account the profile of the training project. In the case of students who have chosen the research profile, a doctoral tutor will be assigned according to the chosen research topic.

The evaluation committees of the dissertations will be appointed once the degree coordinator is aware of the number and profile of the papers to be presented in each application period.

Research project

Students enrolled in the Master’s Degree who have chosen the research profile will have to carry out a Research Project (TI) of 12 credits.

The Research project  will revolve around the topics and lines of research within the framework of Business Management, and will be directed by a doctoral lecturer from the Departments that teach in the Master’s Degree, with the aim of giving continuity to the academic/research career within the framework established by the Postgraduate Commission of the University of Cadiz. Its minimum content will be:

  • Introduction, clearly outlining the research question and its background
  • Theoretical framework duly justified in the literature
  • A model approach, duly justified in the literature, with the hypotheses deduced from said model.
  • Methodological Proposal
  • Proposal for empirical analysis
  • Analysis of results, if applicable
  • Conclusions and discussion
  • Future lines of research

Students will have carried out a research project under the supervision of their academic tutor linked to the field of Business Management. In this way, and as a self-learning process, the student will have been able to develop the master’s degree competences linked to research and the contents of Business Management.

The TI must comply with the regulations governing the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies of the University of Cadiz.

The evaluation of the TI will be carried out by the academic tutor and the evaluation committee appointed for this purpose, with the basis of these evaluations being the following:

Academic tutor: 70%

Evaluation committee: 30%

To carry out the evaluation process of the dissertation, both the academic tutor and the evaluation committee have a rubric document that is available in this section.

The TI assessment committees will be appointed once the degree coordinator is aware of the number and profile of the papers to be presented in each application period.
